You probably have second thoughts about making money from blogging, it's common for some people to think it might be evil, lame or obnoxious, then the best thing to do is not commercialise it at all.
If the whole idea of monetizing your blog sits OK with you then have a go, or if you think it's somehow evil then of course, that's fine as well.
You must be absolutely 100% sure in your mind before you begin, because attempting to generate earnings from your blog is hard enough, without self-sabotage kicking in and making your attempt somewhat half-hearted.
You ought to feel great about generating income this way, there's not much wrong about being eager to succeed.
If in your opinion your blog has real value then earning income from it should be no more than you deserve.
But don't be shy about selling this thing, when you put ads on there you have to really put those ads up there the same with requesting donations, don't be shy.
Some people might complain, they always do when you commercialise a free site.
But is it possible to make a proper living online? Undoubtedly. It may take longer if you have a day job but if you're committed the opportunity is there.
