Having a website that has high search engine ranking, has many advantages. Although learning seo can be a little mind blowing, did you know that the simplest seo mistakes can ruin your chances of search engine ranking.

1. Targeting the wrong keywords

Keyword research is the starting point for your seo campaign. Get this wrong and it is over before you have begun. Make sure the keywords you target are used by searchers and are relevant to your niche.

2. Forgetting to use title tags

A common mistake is to forget to use individual title tags for each page of your website. Titles tell searches and Google what your page is about.

3. Too much flash

Googles spiders cannot read flash when they crawl your site. If you really want to use flash, make sure you also include the html mark-up.

4. Back link spamming

This is a mistake even the best of webmasters are making. Link farms are frowned upon by Google. You will get a much better result by chasing quality one way links from a high pr website.

5. Overdoing the keywords

Your content must make sense. If you try and over do the keywords you will get penalized by Google quickly. What you write must flow.

6. Your keyword density should stay below 5%

7. Duplicate content. If you use content that has been used elsewhere, you will get your website sand boxed by Google. Search engines love fresh content.

8. Inadequate navigation

Your sites navigation and links must be clean and unbroken. Your visitors and search engine bots must be able to find their way around your site.

9. Using images for headers

Headers are what Google bots read first. Make sure you include your important keywords in your headers not just images.

10. Unreliable hosting. I have often made the mistake of using cheap hosting. I was not keen on changing but boy did it make a difference when I did. Outages and servers going down will annoy your visitors and confuse Google bots. This will stop you getting high search engine ranking.

1. Keyword Research

You need to decide which keywords you want high search engine ranking with.

Research is vital, you must make sure the keywords you want to rank high with, pr actually used by searchers.

2. Who are your competitors?

You have to beat your competitors to the top spots. Type in your keywords in the search bar and analyze the top 10. See what they are doing.

3. Title

There are two tips for optimizing your pages titles. One is to make sure each page has a different title.

Secondly try to include your main keywords in the title. But, make sure they are relevant and make sense. Don't keyword spam.

4. Your meta tags

Only use meta tags if you understand them. They are not that important. The keyword density has to be spot on.

5. use headings

The keywords that are included in the headers, tell googles bots that they are important.

6. Always make sure your content is updated often and it is original. Google will penalize you if you have duplicate content on your website.

7. If you can get a high pr website to link to your site, you are on to a winner. Remember anchored keyword links are best.

8. If you have a site map on your website, you are more likely to get more of your pages indexed.

9. Alt tags should always have a description and should not be left blank.

10. You need to update your website often, even if it is just a little tweak. Google loves sites that are maintained often.

Seo is very rewarding for your website but it can also be difficult. I have written lots of articles on seo for beginners. Always start with the simple things and take it from there.

This is for all you newbies who have heard the phrase seo and wondering what on earth it is all about.

Seo is a shortened phrase for search engine optimization.

It is a process that is done to make sure website pages are optimized for google and other search engines.

Why use seo?

One thing any site needs, regardless of it's purpose, is traffic. You need people to visit your website.

It is true that many methods for traffic building exist, all are effective but one you should always consider is search engine traffic.

Organic ranking is when you naturally rank high on search engines for your keywords.

This is something you should aim for.

It is a fact that the majority of searches who use google, only click on listings that appear above the fold. With this in mind your goal should be to appear in the top 3 search results.

Where to start?

I am going to write articles for beginners. I wont use big overstated terms and i will take it slow.

Despite it's first impressions, seo is not rocket science, but it does take some hard work.

You must stick with it if you want to succeed. You will get the hang of it.

Things you need

A website to fiddle with

Patience

Lots of coffee lol

Right, that's the basic run down on what seo is. Shall we get you onto the next bit on how to get high search engine ranking.

In my last post we looked at search engine optimization or seo for short.

Which is best for your Internet marketing campaign? Seo or AdWords?

The answer is simply.......... BOTH.

What is Google AdWords?

It is a pay per click program that gets you fast traffic.

1. Join Google AdWords

2. Tweak your settings such as your daily budget.

3. Build your keywords list

4. Create your ads and then your ready to go.

Why both seo and AdWords are a good idea

Seo friendly pages will bring free organic traffic to your website.

Google AdWords will generate fast targeted traffic for your website.

By using both seo and AdWords you get the best of both worlds.

I have heard google AdWords is expensive!

To the majority of beginners, AdWords is an expensive learning curve. However, if you use it correctly, the ROI is significant.

I am not going to waffle about the right way of setting up AdWords in this post, you need to digest a bit at a time. But what i will say is that seo and AdWords can compliment each other and actually lower the price you pay for a click on your ad.

For all those newbies to Internet marketing, my advice for you is to learn both seo and google AdWords.

In my next post i will do a complete beginners guide to AdWords.

search engine optimization (seo) is basically making your website search engine friendly.

No matter what your online business is, you will benefit from having a seo friendly website.

You may have your own ways of getting traffic, but organic free traffic is always a bonus.

Having your site rank high for certain keywords will bring you FREE quality traffic.

How to search engine optimize your website

1. Research your keywords

You need to do a bit of research here and decide the keywords you want to get high ranking with. Remember to include some long tail keywords too.

2. website URL

There is debate as to whether this matters with seo. It does and it doesn't. It is not vital but in my opinion it is better to include keywords in your URL if you are not going for a branding approach.

3. Content

Some say content is king. But with search engine optimization too many aspects are taken into consideration for it just to be about content.

The content that is on your website has to appeal to both your viewers and search engines.

Include your keywords, ensuring your sentences make sense. Keyword density should be below 5% to avoid being seen as spam.

4. Links

The best links are the ones that are one way and keyword anchored.

A one way, keyword anchored link, from a website with high pr is GOLD.

I have given you the 4 basic seo tasks you need to perform on your website.
